The size of the coil comes typically in two sizes: 16mm and 20mm. Two different sizes for fitting the 16mm or 20mm quartz banger or the titanium nail. Never Use A Cracked Quartz Banger. I know, you spent a fortune to get your dream setup, you had fun for a few months then you noticed there are little cracks on the inside of your quartz banger, STOP USING IT, I’m serious, when being applied to a massive amount of heat, a cracked quartz banger could explode in front of your face.

Low Temperature Dabs Or High Temperature Dabs? If you like to savor every sip of your cannabis concentrates, or maybe you have a small dab rig  with limited water inside to cool down the temperature of your dabs, better go with a quartz banger and set your enail at 500°F. Why Is It safer To Use An Enail Dab Kit Instead Of A Butane Torch?

As dabbing becoming more and more popular in the cannabis community, it’s considered to be one of the most healthy ways of using cannabis, the whole process is clean and combustion-free, you can use any solvent or solventless cannabis concentrate of your choice and using various types of equipment to heat and vaporize it.

Today we will be discussing why is it safer to use an enail dab kit instead of a butane torch. Most of the dabbers use a butane torch to heat the quartz bangers or titatium nails to their desired temperature and dab since the beginning of the whole dabbing scene. However, as we all know, butane torch can get extremely hot and very dangerous to operate even when you are at your normal state, not to mention trying to operate something that generates that much heat while high. Things can get quite messy.

 

A new way of vaporizing your cannabis concentrates was brought to the cannabis community in around 2014, the technology is being called, as we know today, Electronic Nail, e nail or enail. The device normally includes 2 essential parts: The PID controller which controls the temperature of the heating coil, and the heating coil itself, typically uses an XJR connection to connect with the PID controller. There are even portable enails  that you can take on trips if you want, the portable enails works quite similar to the desktop enails but Desktop still are king for flavor and always on capabilities! it’s like a compact version of everyday enails, we will write about the benefits of using a portable enail someday.

 

Now let’s break down a few points why using an enail dab kit is far safer, cleaner and more efficient than using a butane torch to dab.

Butane Torches Are Hazardous To Use

As we mentioned earlier, the butane torch can generate a massive amount of heat while in use, how much heat exactly? According to Wikipedia, the typical home use air butane torch when in use, the tip of the flame’s temperature can reach approximately 2,610 °F (1,430 °C).  It’s hot enough to melt a wide range of common metal such as gold, copper and steal, not to mention any organic compounds. You could easily heat the nails over 1000°F if you are not careful, and the result of that is you might burn your concentrates almost immediately once you put them in, the vaporization process will be so rapid, even when you didn’t burn the material it will definitely lose all its organic flavor and taste horrible, the solvent-based concentrates might even generate harmful elements under that extreme heat and damage your health.

When you are using your torch to heat the nail, you need to move the flame all around the quartz banger or titanium nail in order to spread the heat more evenly, that could be dangerous for the clumsy dabbers out there, especially for the first time dabbers, you’ll inevitably point the butane torch at yourself at some point, you could easily ignite your shirt if you are too close.

A torch could mean bad news for your dab rigs as well, especially when you are using a titanium nail, the heat will conduct from the nail to the dab rig or your bong’s joint at a very rapid rate, the nail can be heated to more than 1000 degrees Fahrenheit easily if you are inexperienced, the joint won’t be able to stand temperature that high for that long, it’ll break in front of your eyes! You can always use an adaptor as a solution, but unfortunately, the adaptor seems to be fragile as well so you might need to replace it once in a while just to be safe.

Why Are The Enail Dab Kits Safer?

Using an enail dab kit could solve almost all problems you’ll have using a butane torch.

First of all, you are in total control of the temperature when you use an e nail. Just simply put in the temperature you desired into the PID controller. Since the heating coil is equipped with a thermocouple temperature sensor it will heat the banger exactly to the temperature that you’ve index and stay at that temp for multiple dabs if you want. We would recommend 300~500°F for low-temperature dabs and 500~700°F for high time dabs. Even though 710 Life enail kits are capable of reaching over 700°F we don’t recommend doing dabs at that high of a temperature because you might damage your lungs.

Secondly, you don’t need to manually heat the bangers all over like you need to when using a butane torch, the heating coil does all that for you. The heating coil wraps the quartz banger or the titanium nail (depends on the kit you bought) around tightly and heats evenly so there will not be some weird high temp spots that might ruin the taste of your cannabis concentrates. You just need to index the temperature you want and wait till the enail kit does it all for you, you’ll find this hands free feature especially important when you are stoned 😉

Lastly, you don’t need to worry about your precious glassware collection breaking because of the heat. Your dab rigs or bongs could cost a fortune to buy and it’s a unique representative of our taste and nowadays with all the themed glass bongs or dab rigs around, they could even be a self-statement. What’s An Enail Dab Kit? – Dabbing 101

Enail dab kits or enail kits are one of the most used tools on the market right now for dabbing.

As technology improving on every aspect of our lives, there’s bound to be something that’s safer and easier to heat your quartz banger or titanium nail for dabbing other than holding a dangerous super high-temperature thingy like the butane torch. That’s when the E-nails (or enails) comes along, it’s very simple to use and a lot safer like I mentioned above. It’s not exactly rocket science, the working mechanism is relatively simple, in this post we’ll show you what makes an enail dab kit and why should it become the next big thing in the dabbing game.

WHAT’S IN AN E-NAIL KIT?

An enail dab kit is usually made or assembled by these parts:
• The PID Controller
• Heating Coil
• Power Cable
• Quartz Banger/Titanium Nail that Fits The Size Of The Heating Coil
• Dab Rig(If you purchased a bundle)
PID controller: PID stands for proportional–integral– derivative, a very commonly used mechanism, many of our home-use electric appliances use this mechanism to control temperature, flow, speed, pressure etc.

Think of your coffee machine or water heater, they all have at least one PID controller in them, so you can have the perfect shower or a nice cup of espresso.
The PID Controller in an enail dab kit is responsible for adjusting the temperature of the coil using the dials on the control panel, by connecting to the thermocouple temperature sensor that was built-in the heating coil, the display panel can show you the temperature rising or dropping in real-time. It’s the “brain” of the whole dab kit.

The standard connection joint of the controller is the 5 pins XLR female joint, which means there is a lot of space for modifying and customizing your equipment when you get the hang of it.

There is an on/off switch on the back of the unit(this only applies to 710 Life PID controllers, other manufacturers might place the button/switch on the front or the side of the unit), when it’s switched on it’ll start working and vice versa.
Heating Coil: As the opposite to the PID controller’s 5 pins XLR female joint, the heating coil has a male one that’s used to connect to PID controller.

The size of the coil comes typically in several sizes: 16mm, 20mm,24mm,25mm,26mm,28mm,30mm,55mm. Different size coils needed for for fitting the each (20mm,24mm,25mm,26mm,28mm,30mm,55mm) quartz banger or the 20mm titanium nail. Since quartz banger’s catching on and more dabbers prefer the pure taste that the quartz bangers bring, and quartz bangers require more space of the chamber(due to the thickness of the quartz material) to vaporize the cannabis concentrates like wax, shatter, rosin and more, the typical coil size for quartz bangers for enails is 20mm.

As we mentioned above, the heating coil contains a thermocouple temperature sensor in it, so it can send real-time data of the temperature of the coil back to the PID unit and tell you the temperature of the coil at the moment.

A heating coil works like any home-use appliances that use thermal short circuit mechanism to heat stuff like your hair dryer or the toaster, a strong but controlled current of electricity caused a thermal short circuit in the coils so it will start to heat itself immediately and pass the heat to the quartz banger or the titanium nail. The heating process is gradual and controllable makes the enail safer to use than a butane torch.
Power Cable: The power cable connects to both the PID controller and the power socket or wall plug, it’ll come in different plug format depending on which country you’ll be using the enail kits.

Quartz Banger/Titanium Nail: Just like any typical quartz banger or titanium nails out there that is used for dabbing, the working mechanism of the dab nails that are used on an enail kit is the same: there will a heat source to pass the heat to the bangers, when they are heated to around 500°F and up, you can place the concentrates in and it will vaporize.

Quartz dab nails that are designed to fit the enail heating coil will have a little handle like bar on the right side of the tube to place the heating coil meanwhile a titanium dab nail screw off the top plate, place the heating coil in the middle of the nail and then screw the top plate back again. Both dab nails are easy to assemble.

As we mentioned, the bangers need to fit the heating coil, so you need to measure the size of your old ones before purchasing a new one. The barrel-shaped heating coil will wrap around the quartz banger/titanium nail to pass the heat to them. It is not necessarily to be a very snug fit, as we all know that materials will expand when exposing to heat so a very tight fit may break your quartz dab nail when heating and it can be dangerous.

Once you’ve attached the heating coil to your quartz banger/titanium nail, then you can insert them in your favorite dab rig to enjoy you tasty dabs!
Dab Rigs: Just like any other dab rigs, if you purchased an enail kit with dab rig bundle the kit will come with a dab rig of your choice.

Tips For New Users
DON’T touch the heating coil when it’s on! The heating coil will be very hot when the kit is on and operating, if you touch it, you are going to have a very bad day.
DON’T touch the heating coil or the dab nail when you just turn the controller off! After your dab session you might want to do a little clean up, but buried in mind that even when you turn off the power, the heating coil and the dab nail will still be very hot, you need to let them cool off for a while, wait at least 20 minutes, and make sure to disconnect the power cable off the socket before touching them.
DON’T use a cracked quart banger! If you spot tiny cracks on a quartz banger it means it’s totaled, don’t push your luck trying to use it a few more times! When a cracked banger is being used it can be hazardous, it can explode when being applied to a massive amount of heat. This rule applies to all quartz bangers not just the ones for enail kits.

What is a Portable Enail?

 

Some of you are here to learn what a portable enail is…. An Enail or E nails, the concept had been around since 2013, enails in full stands for electric dab nails, the device that dabber uses to heat their quartz banger without the help of a butane torch, making them the safest device when it comes to dabbing.

Desktop enails  needs to be plugged into a power source to provide electricity, through the PID controller to set the power output (setting the temperature) to the heating coil, as the heating coil begins heating, the heat will pass to the quartz banger or the titanium dab nail making them hot enough to vaporize cannabis concentrates.  The 710 Life AC pwered eNail has its advantages, stable temps, consistency and hands down best flavor of any enail plugin or portable

But it doesn’t mean there is no downside of using a desktop enail, it’s like a desktop PC that must be connected to a power source for it to work. So AC powered enails are limited to home use.  Dabber would always want something that’s lighter and carry along with them on the go.

WHAT MAKES A PORTABLE ENAIL PORTABLE ?

Unlike the vape pen which can only vape juice, which is a mix of fluid fragrance and vegetable oil, a portable enail, or e-rig must be able to vaporize solid cannabis concentrates like wax, shatter, budder, sauce and diamonds!  So it will need to have an opening and a reasonable size dab nail to place the cannabis concentrates in.

The Body

A heating rod is connected to the two electro sockets, by pressing the button on the body, the PCB logic board is responsible for telling the heating rod how hot it should heat to, some of the smarter portable enails even have some preset modes to use different temps and types of dab nails! The heating rod is always designed to be easily removed so it can be changed, you’ll need to change the heating rod from time to time if you feel that the time needed for heating the dab nails takes longer.  The head of the body provides an 18mm male connection to fit in any glass attachment that’s 18mm female.

 

The Dab Nails 

The dab nails that are being used on the portable enails works the same way as any quartz banger or titanium dab nail, only the heating mechanism is different, the portable enails have a heating rod that heats up relatively quick and stable.The dab nails are designed to be screwed on and off from the body with ease.  Dab nails for portable enails are usually made from 3 types of material: Ceramic, Quartz, and Titanium. Some brands include all three of these dab nails in one set!

 

 

 

 

 

Quartz and ceramic dab nails are the best when it comes to flavors, but it has some downsides as well, comparing to a titanium dab nail the quartz and ceramic dab nails takes a bit longer to heat up but they could provide you with the purest taste of your concentrates, perfect for low-temperature dabs that only requires temperature around 500°F.

 

 

 

 

Titanium dab nails, however, speed and temperature is the key, if you want to get the temperature up to 700°F as fast as possible, you’ll find that the titanium dab nail is the best for you.

Why Dabbing Has Becoming More And More Popular?

Ever since the legalization towards both medical and entertainment use of cannabis/marijuana, as the process moves along, cannabis flowers or buds are becoming more and more available.  As the prices for the dry buds dropped dramatically, stoners and cannabis growers were thinking: Is it possible to make cannabis concentrates more available?  That’s when the dabbing game starts, it’s not like people doesn’t know you can extract cannabis concentrates from cannabis via different types of extraction technology, just back then cannabis buds aren’t as available as they are today. Many cannabis consumers think that customizing their cannabis buzz is limited to the strains they have on their shelves, but temperature is an equally important factor. That’s is why you need direct temperature control. Think of temperature control as the key to unlocking whatever effects a strain can offer. This type of customization isn’t possible through smoking. 310°F to 330°F

There’s a time and place to be stoned off your rocker, but sometimes all you need is the slightest kick from your cannabis. For days when you need uplifting relief to carry you through chores and tasks, low-temp vaping is the key to a functional, productive buzz.

I loaded my Headband concentrate and set my vaporizer to 320°F in order to release three key constituents: the uplifting, focus-feeding terpene pinene; the pepper-flavored anti-inflammatory terpene caryophyllene; and of course, the psychoactive commander in chief, THC. Despite high levels of THC, vaporizing at this temperature didn’t make me feel stoned in the slightest. Instead, I was left feeling acutely alert and in complete control of my faculties. The taste was a subtle mix of herbs and pine, but certainly lacked the loud flavors found at higher temperatures.

Turning the heat up to 330°F, the high became slightly more intense but tasks and concentration were still completely manageable. The 290-330°F range seems the perfect fit for those who wish to stay productive and functional, cannabis novices and newbies, and/or anyone sensitive to THC’s side effects (dizziness, paranoia, dry eyes/mouth, lethargy, etc.).

Moderate Temperatures for a Balanced Buzz

330°F to 370°F
Recommended for: moderate euphoria, enhanced sensory awareness, mood elevation, functional relaxation

As you increase the heat, more THC is volatilized and your high becomes more intense. This middle range — 330°F to 370°F – gives rise to more euphoric effects that help elevate the mood, stimulate giggles, and kick start the appetite. It’s more functional than when you push past the 370°F mark, but you will most definitely start to feel the stone that lower temperatures spared you.

Historically, 365°F has been the sweet spot for me (I’ll never forget because the first time I vaporized, my friend read the machine’s clock-like screen and thought it was 3:65PM). I’ve always loved the combination of tamed euphoria coupled with the subtle relaxation and focus found at this temperature. I turned my Herbalizer up to 365°F and dished out more of the Headband wax. The vapor felt fuller than it did at 330°F, and the flavor was perfectly fruity with the aftertaste of sweet vanilla licorice. Its effects were distinctly different from the low-temp experience: my thoughts went from a sloppy sprint to a relaxed walking pace, allowing me to unwind and focus.

Whether you’re kicking back with a book, exercising, socializing, cleaning, or playing video games, these moderate temperatures provide most of the cannabinoids and terpenes you want without fully volatilizing the THC – I know many people who would want as much THC as possible, but for others it’s about achieving a careful balance of clear-headedness and blissful elevation.

High Temperatures for Intense Euphoria and Relaxation

370°F to 430°F
Recommended for: intense euphoria, sleep, heavy relaxation, meditation

For ultimate THC decarboxylation mode, turn your vaporizer above 370°F. At these high temperatures, you get terpenes like linalool (calming, anxiety relief) and cannabinoids like THCV (energizing, appetite suppressant), but keep in mind that they’re approaching combustion territory. You may even notice the vapor become smokier and harsher on the lungs.

Durban Poison is a South African sativa known for its elevated levels of THCV, a highly psychoactive cannabinoid known to weaken appetite (yes, weaken). I coincidentally had this strain in my collection last week, so I decided to cook it at 430°F to see if I felt more “energized” than I would at a lower temperature.

The above temperature tiers don’t so much “create” effects – they modify them, so keep in mind that the limits of your customization are set by whatever strain you’re working with.

Low Temp Dabs VS High Temp Dabs: The Perfect Temperature for Dab Potency and Flavor

What is dabbing? Dabbing is…. Taking a dose of cannabis oil concentrate and dropping it onto a hot nail to vaporize the cannabinoids and terpenes contained within the cannabis concentrate – that’s the good stuff (where all the flavor is at). Cannabinoids are the THC, CBD and other beneficial compounds found in cannabis (and concentrates), and terpenes are the aromatic compounds that give cannabis products their taste and smell. For example, limonene is a terpene that’s also found in citrus fruits like lemons and limes.  These compounds (the primary constituents of cannabis concentrates) boil/vaporize from 315-440°F (157-227°C); thus, that is the minimum temperature required to fully vaporize the majority of the cannabinoids and terpenes in your concentrate.

The Temperature Trade-Off

Why you should Low Temp Dab:

Upside:  More flavor, smoother and longer hits.

The downside: Less vapor, milder in effect, may leave some concentrate behind also known as pooling.

Why Do Some Like High Temp Dab:

Upside:  Produces thick vapor/smoke, intense effects, all concentrate is consumed.

The downside: Less flavor, harsh on lungs and throat, shorter hit due to irritation caused.  all concentrate is consumed, including some undesirables like fats, lipids and other none psychoactive compounds which have high vaporization temps.

Please keep in mind that this guide pertains to dabbing surface temperature NOT the set temperature on an electric nail (which is likely higher):

• 0°F -300°F: Too low (not recommended ever! wasteful with little effect)
  This will result in minimal vaporization of available cannabinoids and terpenes – you will not be consuming anywhere near all the concentrate dropped on the nail. Expect the concentrate to leave a puddle of oil (pooling) that produces little vapor (waste it to taste it).
• 315°F -450°F: Low temp dab
  This is the sweet spot for vaporization of all cannabinoids and terpenes while retaining maximum flavor. Dabbing at this temperature will produce a smooth hit that is relatively easy on the lungs. The effects will be pleasant but milder than at hotter temperatures.  Expect some pooling to occur.
• 450°F -650°F: Medium temp dab
  This is a nice middle ground for those seeking both stronger flavor and effect. At this temperature, a mix of vaporization and combustion occurs.  Pooling will not occur if dabs are not oversized
• 650°F -750°F: High temp dab
  At this temperature, the nail may still be red hot and combustion is certain to occur. This will produce a harsh, intense hit with thick smoke. Most of the flavor will be lost at this temperature, resulting in a dab that tastes slightly burnt. Pooling will not occur
• 750°F-850 +: Extremely High temp dab
  At this temperature, the nail may still be red hot and combustion is certain to occur. This will produce a harsh, intense hit with thick smoke. Most of the flavor will be lost at this temperature, resulting in a dab that tastes slightly burnt. Pooling will not occur
• 850°F-1000°F: Burning the dab (not recommended ever!  very unhealthy)
  We don’t recommend taking dabs at this temperature – it is not pleasant and very unhealthy

Torch vs Electric Nail for Dabbing at the Perfect Temperature

Depending on your specific setup, you will either be using a torch or an electric heating element to heat up your nail. Using a torch, you can heat your nail anywhere from 0-3,623°F (0-1995 °C).

The same holds true for electric nails, or e-nail, which uses an electric coil to heat the dabbing surface – most coils can be set to temperatures ranging from 0-900°F (0-482°C). The important thing to note with e-nails is that there is a disparity between the temperature setting on the unit and the actual dabbing surface temperature. It is totally common that the enail heating unit is set to 680°F, the dabbing surface may only be 600°F, so always keep this in mind.

Furthermore, not all nail materials (electric or otherwise) are the same – each has different heating and cooling properties. The following properties hold true regardless of whether the nail is heated with a torch or an electric coil.

Titanium*: Short heat up time, highest heat retention, least flavor.
Ceramic: Longest heat up time, high heat retention, good flavor.
Quartz (depends on thickness): Medium heat up time, lowest heat retention, best flavor.

*Not all titanium nails are safe for dabbing – there is a large variance in titanium quality and purity. Stick to manufacturers who utilize tested type 2 titanium like 420Life.com.

The actual temperature at which you take your dab is a unique combination of nail material, thickness, and the specific heating element used. As you might imagine, there are different models of torches and electric units available – the 700°F setting may be too hot on one e-nail but just right on another. That said, a certain level of trial and error has to occur in order to find the perfect temperature for you.

Tips for Perfect Temperature Dabs with a Torch

Given the manual element of heating a nail with a torch, our recommendation is to ditch the torch in place of an enail that you can precisely control your exact temperature with. There are too many variables to get an accurate low temp dab every time without pooling

The Perfect Temperature for Dabs on an E-nail

Don’t stress about the specific temperature setting on the heating element – what matters is the temperature of the nail surface.  It is not unusual for a quartz e-nail to have a surface temperature that is 100°F lower than the set temperature on the unit. This means you have to get to know your e-nail in particular, as your friend’s suggested dabbing temperature may be significantly too hot/cold for you.  Most cheap e-nails adjust temperature in 10°F intervals, professional dabbing enails are like our 710 Life enail are much more accurate and can be adjusted 1°F at a time.  Experiment with the different settings to find the perfect temperature for you. I personally would start your enail at 675 and take a dab, move it 3-5 °F down until you find your sweet spot.
